How Do Boston Rent Drops Compared to Other Cities
#RentPrices are down in many of the country’s most #expensive real estate #markets. How do rent drops in #Boston compare?
Rent prices have been declining in Boston as well as many of the country’s largest markets since the pandemic hit. The City of Boston saw a 2.6% drop in median rent price in 2020, marking the first year in over a decade that the market for Boston apartments contracted. But how do these declines compare to other places where rents have fallen?
Boston saw the 4th largest decline in median rent price of any Metro in the US last year. New York City saw the biggest decline at 4.6%, while San Francisco dropped 4% and San Jose dropped 3.8%. Coincidentally, these metros including Boston were the most expensive cities to rent an apartment over the past few years, and still are today despite the decreases noted in 2020.
